Lusoadventures in Africa

As it turns out, the lusoblood coursing through my veins is pretty strong stuff, perhaps even as strong as a Brazilian cafezinho. Strong, sweet and possibly necessary for existence. After a wee few months back from Brazil (okay, it's been seven months and I *still* haven't changed my blog header, but who's counting, really?), I decided to make the massive jump from Latin America to Africa. Lusophone Africa - so same colonisers - but Africa nonetheless. After fifteen years of everything south of the Rio Grande, I've followed my Portuguese connections to sub-saharan Africa, and more specifically to Mozambique. Am still based in Canada - just altering my travel plans for the next few years!

All that to say that I am just back from my first trip to Mozambique. It was a quick one - with time spent exclusively in the far south, in Maputo, the capital and a few, um, beaches down the coast towards South Africa.

Hmmmmmm ... some competition for those Brazilian beaches. I did miss the itinerant vendors though. What do you mean, I have to actually get my own beer?

The Maputo Elephant Reserve (unfortunately, we didn't have time to stop): No bikes, no motorcycles, no skidoos??

All in a Day's Work: paved roads run out pretty quickly here!
